Member Feature: Hooked on Yoga!
Next up in our series of Member Features we took some time to settle down with one of our longstanding tribe, to find out what’s been going on for them since starting their yoga journey with Yoga with Soul. Meet Moira, one of our Caerphilly studio members.
Diana: Thank you Moira, I really appreciate you taking some time to speak to me for the blog. It’s always so great to hear some real experiences from our members, and see how yoga might be making a difference to them.
Moira: Not a problem, I’m a yoga convert so always happy to chat about how great it is!
Diana: When did you start with us at Yoga With Soul? If I remember rightly, you were there from almost the start?
Moira: Yes, I started September, just after the studio had opened. I came with a one week taster offer pass, and then jumped straight into membership as I loved it!
Diana: Was this the first time you had practiced yoga?
Moira: The last time I had done any yoga was in my early twenties, and that was a little while ago. So it was like starting from scratch really, I didn’t have an existing practice when I came and I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not.
Diana: And now you practice a couple of times a week?
Moira: I try to get to about four or five classes a week, depending on what work is like or what we have on as a family. I pretty much did this many classes straight away. I started by trying all the classes, I found them really accessible and just got hooked.
Diana: That is a lot of yoga. Which is great! What made you start? Were you looking for something in particular when you found us?
Moira: Mostly I wanted to improve my upper body strength. I hate going to the gym, and thought that yoga might be a good alternative. Yoga with Soul had just opened and the taster pass seemed a good way to try all the classes and see if I liked any of them.
Diana: Well something must have stuck!
Moira: It did! I’d love to say that I’m a lean, mean, one-hand-balancing yogi, I’m not. But I did suffer from back, hip and shoulder pain and yoga has helped me strengthen these areas, and given me greater flexibility. Plus, after a stressful or hectic day in work yoga helps me to balance out. Mentally, not on one leg – I’m still working on that!
Diana: That’s so great to hear. We love it when our members can see and feel a real benefit of a yoga practice. That’s why we all do what we do!
Moira: You can tell. The teachers are all so helpful and supportive, but let you have your own practice. You don’t need to do anything to please them, I guess we’re all just doing us. Oh and then there’s the other members, like my partner in crime Gina who I met through Yoga with Soul. It wouldn’t be half as much fun without the others!
Diana: Is there anything you’d like to see from the studio in the future, or where you think your practice might go next?
Moira: I’d love to say more classes please, but I think my husband might sue me for neglect! I’ll just keep on doing my practice… and selling Yoga with Soul to anyone who will listen! There are classes and styles for all abilities and I really do think that yoga has a positive effect on our lives.
